CSPD officers ruled justified in January shooting
Colorado Springs police officers opened fire after spotting a suspect with a gun in an apartment complex hallway this January, and officials say the two officers involved were justified.
Police were called to the 2500 block of Verde Drive after a 911 caller reported hearing several men arguing and that gunshots were fired.
Officers found Thomas McGeorge at the end of the hallway when they climbed the stairs. The officers commanded him to show his hands, and saw him holding a gun. They believed he pointed it at them by the way he moved his hands.
Multiple shots were fired, and McGeorge fell on top of the gun, according to the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. Nearby residents got the gun and moved it away from McGeorge.
McGeorge suffered a minor injury to his hip, but it’s not clear if that came from the officers’ gunshots.
He’s still facing a pending criminal case, according to the 4th Judicial DA’s Office.
