Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Finally Warming Up! – 5/11/19

Today: Although the air will be cool early this morning and there may be some breezy pockets we do expect a noticeably warmer afternoon with much less cloud cover. Later this afternoon it looks possible that a few sprinkles or a quick shower could develop, but we aren’t expecting any heavy or long lasting precipitation today. High temperatures will climb into the 60s to lower 70s for the plains with mainly 50s over our local mountain areas; the high mountain valleys should reach the 50s to lower 60s.

Tonight: Any evening sprinkles or showers will move east and wind down leaving us partly cloudy through midnight. A weak cold front will settle over the plains late and some pockets of low cloud cover are possible over the plains through early Sunday morning. We won’t be as chilly tonight but lows will still drop into the 30s to lower 40s for the plains with 20s and 30s over the mountains and mountain valleys.

Mother’s Day: Any patchy low clouds early in the morning will give way to a mostly sunny sky quickly and we expect the afternoon to remain dry. We do expect some breezy pockets on Sunday but the air should warm back into the 60s and 70s for the plains with 50s to lower 60s for the mountains.

Extended: Next week looks much warmer than last week although we are tracking some weak waves and fronts that may keep showers and thunderstorms rolling over the area occasionally through the week. The air should warm into the 70s and 80s for the plains on Monday and Tuesday with a few sprinkles possible over and near the mountains Monday afternoon, and possibly a slightly better chance for spotty, generally brief/weak showers on Tuesday. A weak cold front may cause some patchy low clouds to develop Tuesday night and will cool the air slightly on Wednesday, but more importantly this front will increase the low level moisture over the area resulting in a better chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and evening. The breeze will be more noticeable starting Wednesday and lasting through the end of the week. Thursday looks warm and mostly dry although a few brief/weak showers will again be possible during the afternoon and evening hours. Showers and thunderstorms look to be a better bet for more of the area on Friday and right now Saturday looks to be significantly cooler with areas of rain, thunder and possibly even some mountain snow again.
