Air Force Academy board meets after removal of Commandant of Cadets

Brigadier General Kristin Goodwin is under investigation and has been relieved of her duty as Commandant of Cadets at the Air Force Academy.

Wednesday, we expected to learn more during the first board meeting at the Academy since the announcement.

We know there is an ongoing investigation into Goodwin, but it’s still unclear what the investigation is all about.

Superintendent Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria addressing the ongoing investigation into Brig. Gen. Kristin Goodwin before the board of visitors, sharing very little.

He did confirm to KRDO that the investigation is what led to Goodwin’s dismissal as commandant of cadets and includes more than one person who filed the complaint.

“I want to assure the board that the actions I took were taken only with the interest of the cadets in mind.” he said.

Silveria and Goodwin’s boss made the decision to remove her from the position.

“This was not about me, and it was not about General Goodwin, this was about the cadets,” said Silveria.

We expected to learn more about the situation between the commandant and the Academy but according to Silveria, they’re keeping the investigation private.

“We do have to respect that process and we also have to respect the dignity and privacy of General Goodwin and her family.”

Goodwin was set to speak before the board meeting Wednesday but was instead replaced by Col. Scott Campbell, who is temporarily taking over command of the cadet wing.

Goodwin’s permanent replacement is expected to take over in May after the Air Force Academy graduation.
