Police respond to barricaded suspect in Old Colorado City

UPDATE: The standoff ended with the barricaded suspect taking their own life.

The area has now cleared in Old Colorado City and both directions of Colorado Ave. are now open.

The Colorado Springs Police Department reports, no shots were fired by officers. It’s unclear at this time if shots were fired at officers during the standoff.

Police responded to a barricaded suspect in Old Colorado City around the 2700 block of West Colorado Ave Wednesday morning.

Shots were fired in the area at 4:30 a.m. When officers arrived at the scene, shots continued to fire. It is unclear at this time if the shots were directed at the officers.

Officers set up perimeters and evacuated a motel in the area, additional shots were being fired during this time.

Shots continued to be fired while officers were still on the scene.

Businesses in the area will not be able to open until the scene is under control. University School is closed due to the standoff.
