CDOT prepares for snowstorm, interstate has potential to close

CDOT prepared for the severe winter weather conditions Wednesday morning.

Crews were out at 8 a.m. preparing for the harsh conditions.

CDOT says depending on the severity of the weather, some highways may close, such as I-25 over Monument Hill and I-70 in the Eastern Plains. The agency recommends sheltering “sooner rather than later” due to the visibility issues that are expected.

Traction laws are in effect throughout parts of I-70.

KRDO Meteorologist Sam Postich says road closures will likely begin after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Drivers are urged to avoid or limit travel during the height of the storm. You are encouraged to carry a winter emergency kit in your car. For suggestions on what to keep in your car click here.

Colorado State Patrol tweeted out a message to encourage employers to consider canceling or delaying work.

We strongly encourage employers to consider either fully cancelling work today, or at least allow employees a half day and to go home by noon. The fewer cars on the road during bad weather, the better. #snow pic.twitter.com/qPuIoKZmFl
