Baby King Jay Davila’s official cause of death released

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the official cause of death for 8-month-old King Jay Davila Friday.

The ruling states the baby died by “blunt force injuries.” It comes three weeks after San Antonio police found King Jay’s body in a backpack buried in an open field near the home of the baby’s father, Christopher Davila.

Christopher Davila, his mother, Beatrice Sampayo, and his cousin, Angie Torres, are all facing felony charges in connection with the baby’s death.

Previous Story:

Two of the three people charged in connection with the disappearance of 8-month-old King Jay Davila have been recent targets of aggression while in custody at the Bexar County Jail.

KSAT reports The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says Anie Torres, 45, was attacked by three inmates on Jan. 9 while in a bathroom.

Torres was taken into custody Jan. 7 on an unrelated robbery charge but was identified by San Antonio police on Jan. 8 as having helped King Jay’s father, Christopher Davila, stage the fake kidnapping to cover up foul play.

The Sheriff’s Office explained Wednesday that Torres had the option of going into protective custody due to the high-profile nature of the case, but first selected to be placed among the general population.

In an unrelated incident, authorities said Beatrice Sampayo, the mother of Christopher Davila also accused in the child’s death, was spit on Jan. 11 while incarcerated. Police say Sampayo was attacked while being escorted from her cell in the infirmary. Authorities say Sampayo declined to press charges against the inmate.

Sampayo also signed paperwork asking to be placed in protective custody while she was booked and is already being kept in the infirmary due to health conditions.

Previous Story (AP):

San Antonio police say they believe an 8-month-old boy reported as abducted is believed to be dead, and three members of his family have been charged in the case.

Police Chief William McManus says the father, grandmother and cousin of King Jay Davila have been charged in the case of the missing baby. All are in custody on evidence tampering charges.

At a Thursday night news conference, McManus said Christopher Davila is believed to have injured the child severely, then told police the boy was in a car that was stolen. McManus says Beatrice Sampayo, the child’s grandmother, is suspected of disposing of the child’s car seat and dropping off Angie Torres, the child’s cousin, who was seen on surveillance video as participating in a staged kidnapping.

McManus says the search continues for the child’s body.

Davila, who denied involvement in the child’s disappearance, is charged with child endangerment.
