After the Spring Fire, SkyTracker 13 drone looks at what’s left behind

The Spring Fire burning in Costilla and Huerfano counties is almost out. It is 91 percent contained and has burned 108,045 acres. Now that air support has stopped, SkyTracker 13’s drone is getting a first look at the damage it left behind.

Lift off began near Forbes Park where the fire started. From the sky, you can see the burned ground. As the drone starts to fly up the treeline, some are completely destroyed, while others are left untouched.

Hundreds of homes were destroyed during the Spring, but many of them are tucked away behind the Forbes Park community gate where our drone couldn’t reach.

La Veta Pass, a scenic route along Highway 160 used to be green and filled with trees. Now after the Spring Fire, it’s left empty. No tree, no leaf, and no bush made it through the flames.

It was right along the highway, we found what was left of someone’s home. We don’t know who lived there or what the home looked like before, but the chimney left standing is all that family has left to look at.

It’s impossible to show all 100,000 acres of the fire. Even if the SkyTracker 13 drone could capture it, the devastation left behind is too big for anyone to know.
