Suspect shot, killed in Pueblo County
A suspect was shot and killed during an arrest attempt by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office Saturday morning.
The incident started with a report of a suspicious vehicle on Acoma Place and 32 3/4 Lane in Pueblo County.
The suspect had felony warrants and when deputies tried to arrest them, they pulled a gun on deputies and shots were fired, authorities said.
“The individual pulled a weapon and our officers returned fire and the individual’s deceased,” said Pueblo County Sheriff, Kirk Taylor.
No deputies were injured.
A second person in the vehicle was not injured and is being questioned by law enforcement.
A neighbor, Shawna Engle, says she heard gun shots ring out Saturday morning.
“That’s not uncommon here because we have all the river bottom. But when I heard them this morning I thought, ‘hmm that was super close,'” she said.
This is the first time this year Pueblo County deputies have been involved in a shooting involving an officer.
Carl Parish, a retired police officer, says having this happen so close to his home is frustrating.
“I don’t understand all of it. But things are changing in this old world,” Parish said.
The names of those involved are not being released yet.
The two deputies involved were wearing body cameras when the shooting took place. Their patrol units were also equipped with dash cameras.
Of course, that video is now evidence and is being reviewed by the 10th Judicial Critical Incident team.
