Colorado Springs charter school teacher guilty of sex assault of a child

A Colorado Springs charter school teacher was found guilty of multiple sex crimes Wednesday.

A jury convicted Kenyada Lattimore, 42, of two counts of sexual assault of a child by a person in a position of trust and one count of internet sex exploitation of a child.

This case started back in April of 2016, at Ambassador Academy, a charter school in Colorado Springs, where Lattimore was a PE teacher.

Investigators say a 12-year-old female student’s mother found inappropriate and sexually explicit text messages between Lattimore and her daughter on her daughter’s phone.

After further investigation, police say Lattimore also inappropriately touched that student on several occasions.

Last Wednesday, during opening statements, Lattimore’s attorney said the entire situation is a misunderstanding full of false allegations. The defense argued that Lattimore believed he was texting with that student’s mother and not the 12-year-old girl. His attorney also claimed Lattimore was not in the state when the inappropriate touching allegedly happened.

Lattimore will be sentenced on July 31.
