Southern Colorado sees season’s first significant snowfall Sunday
After a dry fall and the first month of a dry winter, significant snowfall finally arrived in southern Colorado.
Residents in the southern Pueblo County towns of Rye and Colorado City reported six to eight inches of snow Sunday; those communities normally receive among the heaviest accumulations in winter storms.
Other areas received less or had more melting.
The snow provides much-needed moisture in a region at or near drought conditions; many residents said they’re thankful for it and hope for more.
Occasional bands of wind-driven heavy snow reduced visibility and resulted in snowpacked roads.
But constant work by snowplows and de-icing crews kept most highways and major roads clear.
As of Sunday evening, no major traffic accidents were reported in Pueblo County.
