Colorado Springs legislator leaving state House for Small Business Administration slot

Colorado Springs’ representative to the Colorado General Assembly says he’s leaving his position in the state to after accepting an appointment to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

State Rep. Dan Nordberg, the Republican who has represented House District 14 since 2013, made the announcement Monday on his Facebook page, adding that it was an opportunity to continue serving in a capacity he “simply could not turn down.”

Nordberg says he was appointed by President Donald Trump’s administration to head up the Region 8 office of the SBA. Region 8 includes Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming. The SBA has offices in every state and 10 regional offices.

Nordberg had served on multiple committees in the General Assembly, including the Business Affairs and Labor, Legislative Audit, Statutory Revision, and Transportation & Energy committees.

Now it’s up to a vacancy committee to decide on Nordberg’s replacement to the Colorado legislature. It will consist of about 70 precinct leaders and elected officials who reside in the district, Nordberg said. It’ll be held Dec. 21 at the Embassy Suites near Woodmen Road.

The chosen candidate will fill in for the remainder of Nordberg’s term until January 2019.
