Residents Back Home After Device Detonated in Caon City

FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. – Caon City Police say an old mortar round prompted the evacuation of nearly 20 homes Sunday night.
A man found the device in the Arkansas River, took it home and then called authorities.
Crews from Fort Carson took the mortar round and destroyed it. They say it was very old and they have no idea where it came from or how it ended up in the river.

Residents inCaon City are back home after a device was detonated Sunday night.
Police say a man found, what looked to be a missile, near the Arkansas River. He took it home, where he later called authorities.
When police arrived, they learned it was a live device. The man’s home and 20 other houses were evacuated.
The device was detonated around midnight.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is evacuating homeowners in the 300 block of North Raynolds Avenue in Caon City after receiving reports of a suspicious device.
Raynolds from RGB north to Cherry is closed in both directions.
Caon City Police Department, Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, and Caon City Fire are all on the scene. The Pueblo Bomb Squad is en route.
Evacuated residents are gathering at Bridge to life Church , 222 N. Orchard, Canon City.
