The Broadmoor Seven Falls re-opening after 2-year closure
One of the oldest attractions in Colorado Springs will re-open Thursday, after being closed for nearly two years.
Seven Falls shut down in September of 2013. Floods tore through the area, leaving behind a giant mess that forced the closure.
“Most of the canyon was underwater. We lost 24 steps on the stairway, it really was just in shambles,” said Cristy Sulewski, director of operations at Broadmoor.
The Broadmoor took over and invested $12 million.
“We put in more boulders, breaks, vegetation as well as deepening the areas of the wall. So when the water comes down, it has more places to go,” said Sulewski.
Visitors can also expect to see several other improvements.
“We were able to design a zip line tour different from anything in the U.S. We’re zipping from cliff to cliff instead of tree to tree,” said Duane Zobriftm, owner of Broadmoor Outfitters.
There are two new zip line courses. The woods course will open on Aug. 13. The Finns course, which ends with a rappel to the canyon floor, will open mid-September.
“There are some kind of wow factors that come out from being up above everything,” said Kurt Segerberg, of Broadmoor Soaring Experience.
The additions to the falls also include a brand new restaurant called 1858. It focuses on Colorado history and food.
“We’ll have Bison and Bore from Colorado. I think the Colorado locals are really going to appreciate that,” said Kathleen Symons, chef at 1858.
Gates open Thursday morning at 9. Parking is no longer allowed at the gate, it is now located at the Broadmoor east lot off of Lake Avenue on 1st Street next to the Christmas house.
Tickets are $14 for adults and $8 for children ages 2 to 12. Season entry passes are available for $35 for adults and $25 for children. Season entry passes are good through Dec. 31. Tickets for the zip line need to be purchased in addition to the Seven Falls entry fee.
