Fort Carson Soldier Killed in Motorcycle Accident

A Fort Carson soldier was killed in a motorcycle accident in Colorado Springs Saturday (04/25/15) afternoon.

Police say the head-on collision happened after the motorcyclist, identified as 24-year-old Christopher R. Higginbotham, from Tennessee, crossed into the oncoming lanes and ran into a pickup truck going in the opposite direction.

Police believe Higginbotham may have been speeding, and was trying to avoid a car stopped ahead of him.

Witnesses estimated he was travelling at least 60 MPH, in the posted 35 MPH zone.

None of the occupants of the truck were injured.

The driver of the truck will not be cited for any violations.

Cimarron was closed in both directions from 12:15 PM until about 4:15 PM for the investigation.
