Crews keep eye out for fire danger while thousands enjoy Lantern Fest

Thousands of lanterns lit up the sky in Fountain Saturday night.

The annual Lantern Fest happened at the Pikes Peak International Raceway.

Wildfires have been a concern, with two blazes in the area this year, and fire crews were making sure there wouldn’t be another.

Fountain Fire Chief Darin Anstine said fire crews prepared by holding group meetings, arranging for four fire agencies to patrol the area, along with having six brush trucks and two ambulances.

“I rather be over prepared and have a lot more people than I need, than not to have enough and have something go off,” he said.

Crews over prepared to make sure people such as Josh Green could celebrate his daughter’s birthday without worrying about a fire.

“Fire danger is the last thing on my mind. I just came out to have a good time,” he said.

The Fountain Fire Department said crews are going to be out until at least midnight to make sure there are no fires.
