CSU-Pueblo expects to set enrollment record

Colorado State University-Pueblo expects to have a record number of incoming freshmen for the fall semester.

Paul Orscheln, who oversees enrollment for the university, said the school has already received 2,000 more applications from prospective students than it did last year. Orscheln credits the university’s expanding recruitment efforts. He said the university is actively recruiting high school sophomores and juniors, not just seniors.

“We’re seeing increases both from the state of Colorado but also to some secondary markets that we are now reaching out which would be Dallas, Texas; Albuquerque; Phoenix; and southern California,” Orscheln said.

His goal is to have 1,045 incoming freshmen for the fall 2015 semester.

When asked if the football team’s national championship win last December has helped to promote the school, Orscheln said, “Winning the national championship is definitely obviously a great thing for the institution and gives us a lot of momentum when we start recruiting students.”

He added that prospective students are now able to take a virtual tour of the university on the school’s website.
