Man who pleaded guilty to child sex assault sentenced
A man who admitted to sexual assault on a child could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Spc. Joe Alfred Garcia, who was stationed at Fort Carson, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust in December of 2013.
On February 26, 2014, a judge sentenced Garcia to 30 years to life in prison.
Garcia was arrested for sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl.
Police say the investigation into Garcia began when Homeland Security Investigations in Boston found pornographic photos of Garcia and the girl online.
Garcia was living on Welch Circle, near Airport and Murray in the Springs, and prior to that lived on Hunting Meadows Circle near Chelton and Murray.
Garcia was with the Warrior Transition Battalion at Ft. Carson. He was originally from Pasadena, CA and had been with the military for more than five years.
