Tree Lands On Home

Late Sunday, powerful gusts of wind uprooted a large tree in one Colorado Springs neighborhood.

The tree landed on a house in the 500 block of Warren Avenue, causing major damage. Luckily, no one was injured.

“Oh my God,” said Whitney Brown, who lives in the home with her mother. “It was crazy.”

The overnight winds packed a punch. “It sounded like it was banging against everything,” said Brown.

Brown said it all happened around midnight while she was home in bed.

“It was a big thud,” said Brown. “And then it sounded like a big rush of wind on the back of the house.”

Brown was shocked to see that the landscape of her front yard was permanently altered.

“It was absolutely crazy,” said Brown. “And then we looked across the street and that tree was gone, too.”

Brown admitted that the tree that stood in her front yard for years had been dead for awhile.

“We were planning on removing it,” said Brown. “But we didn’t get around to doing that.” So Mother Nature removed it for her.

Brown said her homeowner’s insurance will cover the damages.

Peak wind gusts Sunday in Colorado Springs ranged from 50 to 70 mph, doing some major damage.
