COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo (KRDO) - The uncertainty continues for bar owners as businesses around them start to open, but they remain closed.

They await word from Gov. Jared Polis, who has been vocal on not reopening night clubs or bars anytime soon.

An area of downtown Colorado Springs that would often be vibrant is still shuttered by closed doors and empty patios.

Across the street from open restaurants Cowboys nightclub remains closed.

"We're just desperate to get open. We have employees that want to work," said owner Tim Metcalf. Metcalf says he just wants the governor to let his industry know when they can open back up.

"We're hoping to get a variance when the governor says we can open back up," Metcalf said.

He knows it won't be easy, but is hopeful they can reopen safely.

"To tell someone in a nightclub just to sit down where they go to dance is difficult," he said.

He says if the answer doesn't come soon, he and similar businesses will need to reevaluate their business model.

"We're going to open up and seat people at tables like a restaurant at the max they'll give us and we'll join what everyone else is doing and give customers a chance to enjoy a hamburger or wings and enjoy the music," Metcalf said.

Because staying afloat, gets harder as the days go by.

"It's difficult because there is nothing we can do," Metcalf said. "The biggest problem is going from having income coming in to pay the bills to absolutely no income."

He is hopeful the governor will allow them to reopen by July.
